VLA- Testing at Health First Wellness

We are healthcare professionals who have received extensive training in maximising healthy ageing and improving vitality, making them ideally suited to help you achieve your goals. We  use a scientifically validated test known as Biological Impedance Analysis (BIA), which assists them to design a program specifically for your needs. Nutritional supplements, exercise recommendations and dietary advice will be provided, giving your body the building blocks for maximum health and energy.

BIA is a science that was originally developed for monitoring patients after surgery in a hospital setting. Your Practitioner will connect leads to your hands and feet and pass a low voltage electrical current through your body. This is safe and painless, and provides your Practitioner with insight into aspects of your health such as how much fat and muscle that you have in your body. BIA can also help your Practitioner to monitor your cellular health and energy levels.

Saliva Testing

February 20, 2014

Salivary hormone testing provides an accurate way to identify these imbalances and help to focus on bringing them back to a balanced state. Health First Wellness offers salivary hormone testing as a non-invasive and very convenient measure of her client’s hormones. It measures free, bioavailable hormones (those doing their job at the cellular level) as opposed to bound, unavailable hormones in the blood.

Hormones play such a vital role in the maintenance of health and wellbeing. Identifying an imbalance in any one or more of the hormones through saliva testing can help to create the most effective treatment protocol for the client in order to balance the hormones. For example, the levels of your stress hormone cortisol measured over the course of a day gives an excellent snapshot of your adrenal health. And is a fabulous test for people who feel fatigued on waking, or in the afternoons. It is also the perfect test when combined with melatonin hormone testing for people with insomnia and sleep problems.

Salivary hormone testing can be used for both men and women.

Bio Impedence

July 9, 2013

Bioimpedance Analysis Testing also known as Bio-electrical Impedance Analysis or BIA, is a widely-accepted method of measuring the ratio of body fat against lean muscle mass due to its simplicity, speed and noninvasive nature. A BIA helps to determine a realistic measure relating to your picture of health and well-being, and may help in planning goals for weight management or in achieving a better body balance for health improvement and prevention of illness.

Body Bioimpedance Analysis gives valuable information on cellular health, metabolism, toxicity to help create naturopathic, nutrition, or exercise programs suited to your individual needs. The following measurements are taken:

  • Overall Cell Health (“Phase Angle”): This is a key indicator of your overall health. The higher the number, the healthier you are.
  • Body Composition: Indicates the body’s percentage of fat and muscle. Important because the more body fat you have, the more inflammation you have – this is a significant risk factor for a number of diseases, especially heart disease, because inflammation stresses key parts of your body defense including your liver, immune system and adrenal glands.
  • Metabolism: Indicates if your body is breaking down healthy or unhealthy tissue for energy. Obviously, the higher your metabolism, the less fat you have.
  • Water inside/outside of cells: When your body has a high level of toxicity, there is more water outside your cells than inside them. Having more water outside of your cells dilutes the toxins and helps to make them less harmful to your body. However, this is not a healthy state to be in because the inside of your cells do not have enough water to function properly.
  • Hydration: If your body is low on water, your metabolism slows. Problems resulting from dehydration include headaches, fatigue, and sweet cravings. It may surprise you that most people are chronically dehydrated because they do not drink enough water.
